Pitru Dosh: Understanding Its Meaning and Impact

Pitru Dosh, rooted in Vedic astrology, is believed to arise when the souls of one’s ancestors are dissatisfied or burdened due to unresolved issues or unfulfilled duties. This celestial imbalance is often attributed to ancestral karmic debts or improper performance of rituals and rites, such as Shraddha or Tarpan. According to traditional beliefs, Pitru Dosh can manifest in an individual’s horoscope and may lead to obstacles in personal growth, strained relationships, health issues, or financial instability. To mitigate its effects, practices like offering prayers, performing ancestral rituals, or observing disciplines are recommended, fostering harmony and a sense of closure for the departed souls.

In earlier days, there used to be joint families staying mostly together or in the same villages and hence people would often perform poojas for the departed souls. But as the time has passed, the families have moved from village to cities and mostly are nuclear families. Many a times we don’t even know about the departed souls in our clan with whom we are not in touch. These gets accumulated and as people in our clan pass and it mounts to atrupt souls waiting to be performed shraddh and poojas which comes back to us as pitru dosha.
